Glutathione (GSH) is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant — a tripeptide (γ-glutamyl-cysteinyl-glycine) that neutralises reactive oxygen species, supports hepatic detoxification pathways, and maintains cellular redox balance. In aesthetic medicine, glutathione inhibits tyrosinase (the rate-limiting enzyme in melanin synthesis) and shifts melanin production from eumelanin (dark) to phaeomelanin (lighter), producing skin-brightening effects. It also supports collagen synthesis and protects against UV-induced oxidative damage.
