PNC-27 contains an HDM-2-binding domain (residues 12-26 of p53) linked to a membrane-penetrating peptide. It binds HDM-2 on the surface of cells overexpressing this oncoprotein, causing rapid membrane lysis via pore formation. Normal cells lacking surface HDM-2 are unaffected.
